Science is dynamic, expanding body of knowledge covering ever new domains of experience. It is an organized system of knowledge that is based on inquiry, natural curiosity, logical reasoning, and experimentation. Science teachers' role has evolved from transmitter of knowledge to facilitator of knowledge. The teacher is also expected to be a participant in the construction of knowledge. Keeping these concerns in view I have made an attempt to develop a book on science education. This book includes some basics of science education and hopes that it is relevant to students, teachers, and researchers in science education. The descriptions given here would enable beginners to grasp the essential concepts in science education easily. It is hoped that this book would be equally helpful to the prospective teachers of teacher education institutes and teachers of in-service. The book will also help teacher-educators to update their knowledge and to deal with context-based understanding and analysis of their classroom experiences.
